Announcing Behavioral Health East & Central Regional Directors

We are pleased to announce two new Behavioral Health Regional Directors, Sara Huffman and Chuck Hill.

Sara is now responsible for operational leadership of the BH Central Region in North Carolina, which includes:  Alamance, High Point, Halifax, Concord (including PSRs), Central IPS programs, all Substance Use programs in the Central, East and New Jersey.  Sara is also responsible for MAT program operations across North Carolina, and will also lead our operations as we expand into New Jersey.

“I am so excited to start this new chapter with RHA in the Central Region’, said Sara.  ‘I am lucky to have the opportunity to work with an amazing central team and continue to provide excellent services to individuals, families, and communities.”

Sara has worked in Clinical and Community Programming since 2007, and first joined RHA in 2012 as a Program Manager.  At RHA, she has also served as Program Director for Advanced Access Crisis Center, Regional Clinical Coordinator, and as the NC state-wide Operational Director for our Comprehensive Substance Use initiative, Hilltop.

Sara holds a Bachelors in Social Work from.Appalachian State, a Masters of Social Work from East Carolina.  Sara is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and a Licensed Clinical Addition Specialist (LCAS).

Sara has served on many community committees, including Co-Chair, Alamance County Opioid Task Force; Co-Chair, Alamance County Crisis Solutions; Provider Council Regulatory Board and MH/SA Council; Wake Med/NABH Clinical Operations Committee; NC Substance Use Disorder Federation Committee (NC-SUD Federation); Alamance Steps-Up Committee Member; CIT Steering Committee Member; Cardinal Innovations Clinical Advisory Committee Member; Cardinal Innovations SUD Committee Member; East Carolina University School of Social Work Board Member; NC Provider Council Substance Use Disorder Representative and Liaison; NC Stepping Up Task Force.

Sara Huffman was recently awarded the Eastern Carolina University School of Social Work Rising Star Alumni Award for 2018, which recognizes outstanding alumni and their contributions to the school and to their profession.


Charles Hill M.ED., LPC Now Leading NC Behavioral Health – East Region

Charles Hill, who goes by Chuck, is now responsible for operational leadership of the BH East Region in North Carolina, which includes: New Bern BHS (includes ACTT and TMS), Wilmington BHS (includes MCM, TMS, & SHORE), The Harbor (FBC), Robeson/Lumberton BHS (includes PSR), Scotland/Laurinburg BHS, Shining Star PSR, Columbus/Whiteville BHS (includes PSR).

“I am very appreciative of the opportunities that RHA has provided to me and I am excited about transitioning to the Eastern Region’, said Chuck.  ‘I look forward to the challenges ahead and continuing and expanding a great working relationship with the Directors and Staff.”

Chuck has worked in community mental health since 1988, and  joined RHA in 2014, serving as the Regional Operations Director for the Central Region.  Chuck stepped in to provide leadership to the East Region earlier in 2018.  Chuck has over 30 years progressive experience in mental health, both providing direct care as well as serving in leadership positions.

Chuck holds a Masters degree in Education, Community Mental Health Counseling, a Bachelors degree in Religion, and a Minor in Psychology from Stetson University.  Chuck is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and a National Certified Investigator/Inspector.

Chuck has served on numerous including: Cardinal Innovations Network Council; Cardinal Innovations Piedmont Region Local Council (current president); DMH Capacity Study/Needs Assessment Workgroup; Provider LME Leadership Forum; Cabarrus County Partnership for Children/Smart Start; Healthy Cabarrus (Healthy Communities Initiative); Cabarrus Sentencing Services;  Mental Health Association of Central Carolinas; Juvenile Crime Prevention Council;  Criminal Justice Partnership Board; Community Access Program Grant Committee; Local Community Collaborative for Children; Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder Collaborative; School Nursing Committee.
